Soul Sista' serie. Birthday's gift for Marco.

I know it's an official web site way to present her but I think it fits ok. It's not a raunchy soul like Miss Lavette can sing, it's smooth and fluid Soul (too much sometimes?) but she grooves for sure and it worth a listen! :) A mix between Trip-Hop and Soul?

Stephanie has grown to be a respected artist among fans and critics alike, through work with producer Geoff Barrow of Portishead, Soulive, DJ Spinna as well as contributing her vocals to projects for Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Tricky, and Roy Hargrove.'Tell It Like It Is' sees the Bronx-native work with local musicians to produce an album that wraps up classic soul, seventies funk-rock and old-school hip hop influences into one vibrant outpouring. "There is more of a social message on this album. There were so many things that I saw as a New Yorker," says Stephanie. "9/11 was just one of them. The frustration of so many people coming together to stop a war, trying to get a straight answer out of the government - hence the title 'Tell It Like It Is'".
